Value Stream Map Builder Pro

VSM Builder Pro is an advanced, application designed to map value streams, calculate key metrics, and pinpoint manufacturing inefficiencies. Built entirely as a standalone tool, it guarantees your industrial data remains private and strictly offline, removing the need for external networks or recurring subscription costs. It does not replace Go See and getting facts however it streamlines the documentation and takes your project facilitation to the next level with your production teams.

Interface & Functionality

The program is structured around a central, interactive canvas with a top header for global controls and a left-hand toolbar containing all your mapping elements.

1. Workspace

·        Multi-Tab Layout: You can build and manage multiple maps (e.g., Current State vs. Future State).

·        Canvas Controls: The canvas supports drag-and-drop placement, native lasso-selection for grouping, and clipboard actions to copy/paste complex flows across different tabs.

·        Save & Export: Because the app processes everything locally, projects are saved directly to your machine as .xlsx files. You can also print the map directly to PDF for clean, offline reporting. You do not need to have MS Excel installed on the pc in order to use the program.

2. Drag-and-Drop Library

The left toolbar houses a comprehensive library of standard Value Stream Mapping symbols. By clicking these buttons, you deploy elements directly to the canvas:

·        Core Flow Symbols: Factory (Supplier/Customer), Truck, Process Box, Workcell, and Inventory triangles.

·        Information & Pull Systems: Production Control, Supermarkets, Kanban Posts, Material Pulls, and Go-See.

·        Improvement Tracking: Kaizen Bursts to mark specific problem areas.

3. Data-Driven Metrics & Automation

Rather than just drawing shapes, the program acts as a calculation engine. Double-clicking any process or inventory node opens a detailed modal to input real-world data:

·        Process Inputs: You can input Cycle Time, Manual Time, Uptime, Scrap, Shifts, Operators, and Changeover metrics.

·        Advanced Scenarios: The tool automatically handles complex shop-floor realities, including calculating weighted average cycle times for mixed-model production and adjusting demand for shared asset machines. In addition, you can change the calculation settings on the fly to toggle between the estimated lead time of material to the customer or process waste.

·        Customer Demand: You can calculate precise daily demand by inputting the working days per month alongside your product mix volume.

4. Automated Analytical Tools

The program automatically translates your raw node data into visual analytics, accessible via the toolbar:

·        Bottleneck Analysis Table: Analyzes all connected processes against customer demand and flags any step exceeding 100% utilization in bold red.

·        Capacity & Man Balance Charts: Generates real-time bar charts that visualize Takt Time against output, breaking down process losses into categories like Scrap, Changeover, and Uptime.

·        Process Summary: A comprehensive table that calculates total Process Lead Time (PLT), Total Value-Added Time (VA), Activity Ratio, and required operator counts based on your map's current state.

·        Kaizen Summary Table: Automatically collects all Kaizen Bursts on your map, sorting them by priority and detailing the text notes into a clean, actionable grid.

5. Intelligent Connections & Routing

·        Flow Types: You can connect your operations using specialized flow lines: Information (electronic/manual), Push, Pull, or FIFO.

·        Custom Routing: Once connected, you can click and drag the flow line labels (or anchor points) to cleanly route, bend, and format the connections around your map layout.

·        Automated Timeline Ladder: At the bottom of connected process flows, the program draws the traditional VSM "timeline ladder," summarizing the total working time versus waiting time (Process Lead Time). The timeline is smart in that it recognizes the impact of parallel operations.

6. Built-In Educational Resources

To democratize the continuous improvement process, the software includes a comprehensive Help Guide. This acts as a built-in Lean manual, offering formula breakdowns, benchmark activity ratios, and strategies for mapping shared assets or illustrating unreliable machinery.
